About Me
Dr. Mary Elizabeth Pioli has a private practice based in Westport, CT serving both CT and NY. She earned a PhD in clinical psychology and a certification in school psychology from Long Island University, Brooklyn. Her educational background is in Psychology with a Neuroscience minor (BA, University of Connecticut), Teaching (MAT, Elementary Education, Sacred Heart University), and Psychology in Education (MA, Teachers College, Columbia University).
During her doctorate, she received clinical training at Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center, Long Island University Psychological Services Center, and two of Yale University’s School of Medicine sites - the West Haven Mental Health Center and the Substance Abuse Treatment Unit. She completed her predoctoral internship at the Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut and her postdoctoral research and clinical fellowship at Community Mental Health Center, Inc..
Through all of her experiences she had the pleasure of working with children, adults, and families. She also has considerable experience providing consultation to the community and surrounding schools. At many of the sites, she received additional, specialized training in conducting psychological and neuropsychological evaluations.
Dr. Pioli is committed to increasing access to psychodynamic thinking and promoting change through many avenues. She serves as an adjunct professor of psychology at college and university levels. Additionally, she is affiliated with several professional organizations as the President of the Connecticut Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology (CSPP), a member of Divisions 18 and 39 of the American Psychological Association (APA), and a member of the Connecticut Psychological Association (CPA).
She has served as a Past Pledge Class President of Phi Sigma Pi Honors Fraternity at the University of Connecticut, and a Past President of Psi Chi International Honors Psychology of Psychology at Teachers College (TC), Columbia University. Additionally, while at TC, she co-organized the first New York Psychoanalytic Fair and the Neuroscience Lecture Series.
